Over the past decade, Dr. Colly has strived to improve her craft by increasing her knowledge base. She is a true believer in life long learning. "During my time as a teacher in Oakland Unified School District, I have had the opportunity to work on several initiatives including the following: Focal 15 Project, Constructing Meaning (increasing academic vocabulary for all students) and the History DBQ’s. My work experience includes teaching at every school level from elementary through high school including alternative education. My responsibilities included but were not limited to discipline, professional development, and curriculum development. I am trained in Restorative Justice, Culturally Responsive Classroom Management, and I developed my own effective classroom management curriculum for newly credentialed teachers at CSUEB. I worked closely with California Youth Outreach (Gang Awareness and At-risk Youth) and Seneca Center (Mental Health Association) in order to provide support for troubled students and my dissertation is on the truancy rates in OUSD. In addition to my collaboration with community organizations, I have also worked as a new intern support coach and BTSA coach for the past four years. I believe in quality education for students and teachers and giving access to all."
